The trade sits deeper than floor space, though. Restocking habits deserve one honest sentence each. Visual merchandising teams dress a full front in one pass, so they resent sliding panels within a week. Magnetic catches hold a door closed against vibration and casual pull β€” closure, not security. Shelf load: span sets thickness, not the catalog

Fixed versus adjustable is the other shelf decision. A bonded fixed shelf acts as a structural rib β€” it stiffens the whole carcass and carries more load at the same thickness, which is why tall cabinets want at least one. Adjustable shelves on pin holes give merchandising freedom, but each shelf spans free between pins, so they run a size thicker for the same load. Most cabinet builds mix the two: a fixed center shelf for structure, adjustable ones above and below for the seasonal reset.
