Acrylic Floating Frames
Two clear panels, one frameless display. Your photo, certificate, or artwork appears to float — no visible border, no distraction.
An acrylic floating frame is a display made from two clear acrylic panels that sandwich a printed item — photo, certificate, menu, or artwork — so it appears to float with no visible border. Wetop Acrylic manufactures custom acrylic floating frames — also called plexiglass floating frames, acrylic sandwich frames, or double panel acrylic frames — in magnetic (10+10mm to 15+15mm panels), standoff pin, tabletop, and wall-mounted configurations. Any size from 4×6 to 11×17 and beyond. MOQ 50 pieces.

Magnetic Acrylic Floating Frames
A magnetic acrylic floating frame uses two clear acrylic panels with rare-earth neodymium magnets at the corners. Depending on the panel thickness and visual style, those magnets can sit in shallow recesses or remain visible as polished corner magnets. In both cases they snap the panels together, sandwich a photo, certificate, or artwork between them, and let the insert change without tools. The most popular acrylic floating frame format for tabletop and retail display.
Magnetic floating frames are our most-ordered floating frame product. The corner magnets make insert changes effortless — no screwdrivers, clips, or special tools. Pull the two panels apart, place your photo or certificate, and snap them back together. The clear acrylic sandwich frame stays visually minimal while the magnetic closure remains easy to understand at a glance.
Each panel is laser-cut from cast acrylic (PMMA) — whether you call it acrylic, plexiglass, or perspex, the material is identical. Neodymium magnets (6mm diameter, N52 grade) are placed at the corners of the two panels. On some builds they sit in shallow recesses; on others they remain visible as polished corner magnets so the closure is immediately readable. When the two panels come together, the magnets snap and clamp the insert flat between them.
- Easy insert changes — Swap photos, menus, or certificates in seconds by separating the magnet-held panels
- Strong hold — N52 neodymium magnets keep the panels firmly aligned, even standing upright
- Magnetic closure options — Specify visible corner magnets or recessed magnets based on the look you want
- Versatile display — Stand on a desk, lean against a shelf, or add a tabletop easel for angled viewing

All sizes are customizable. The frame is cut 5mm larger than the insert on each side, leaving a clear acrylic border that creates the floating effect. Panel thickness: 10mm (standard), 12mm (mid-size & premium), 15mm (large format & gallery-grade).
Standoff Pin Acrylic Floating Frames
A standoff pin acrylic floating frame mounts two clear acrylic panels to a wall using metal standoff pins — typically brushed stainless steel or satin chrome. The pins pass through drilled holes at the corners of both panels, sandwiching the insert between them and creating a 15–25mm gap between the wall and the frame. The result is a dimensional, modern floating display.
Standoff pin floating frames turn any photo, certificate, or artwork into a modern wall feature. The metal pins hold the two acrylic panels away from the wall, creating a shadow effect that makes the displayed item appear to hover. No visible frame edges, no matting, no glass — just the image between two clear panels.
The standoff pins serve double duty: they hold the panels together (sandwiching the insert) AND mount the assembly to the wall. Four pins for sizes up to 11×14, six for larger frames. Standard pin finish is brushed stainless steel; satin chrome, matte black, and gold finishes are available.
- Dimensional display — 15–25mm wall gap creates shadow depth and a floating effect
- Premium hardware — Brushed stainless steel standoff pins included with every frame
- Easy install — Drill 4 holes, insert wall anchors, screw in pins — 10 minutes per frame
- Easy insert changes — Unscrew the front caps, separate the panels, swap the insert, reassemble
Pin Finish Options
| Finish | Look | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Brushed stainless steel | Clean, professional, warm metallic | Corporate offices, medical offices, hotels |
| Satin chrome | Cool, bright metallic | Modern galleries, retail, tech offices |
| Matte black | Bold, contemporary contrast | Dark-themed interiors, restaurants, galleries |
| Gold / brass | Warm, luxurious | Hotels, spas, high-end retail, real estate offices |
Tabletop Acrylic Floating Frames
A tabletop acrylic floating frame stands freely on desks, counters, and shelves using an integrated base or angled easel back. Two clear acrylic panels sandwich the insert — held together by magnets, edge clips, or a slotted base — creating a frameless floating display without wall mounting.
Tabletop floating frames sit on any flat surface without wall mounting. The two-panel sandwich design shows your photo or document from both front and back — perfect for table centers and counter displays where people approach from both sides.
Slotted Base
A solid acrylic base block with a vertical slot that holds the sandwiched panels upright. The base is typically 15–20mm thick and 20–30mm wider than the frame on each side for stability. The simplest and most stable tabletop option.
Integrated Easel
A single-piece frame where the back panel extends below the front panel and bends at an angle to form its own stand — no separate base needed. The frame leans back 15–20° for easy viewing.
Edge-Clip Stand
Small acrylic or metal clips grip the bottom edge of the sandwiched panels and act as feet. Minimalist look — the frame appears to balance on its own. Best for small sizes (4×6 and 5×7).
Tabletop Floating Frame Sizes
| Insert Size | Base Type | Frame Dimensions | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4×6in | Slotted base or easel | 112 × 162mm | Desktop photos, small gifts, retail counter |
| 5×7in | Slotted base or easel | 137 × 188mm | Desk portraits, restaurant table signs, event photos |
| 8×10in | Slotted base | 213 × 264mm | Counter displays, reception desk certificates |
| A4 (210×297mm) | Slotted base | 220 × 307mm | Menu displays, document display, counter promotions |
Wall-Mounted Acrylic Floating Frames
Wall-mounted acrylic floating frames hang on walls via hanging wire, French cleat, or adhesive strips. On the front face, the two panels are usually secured either by low-profile screw posts or by magnetic panel closures, while the wall-mounting method sits on the back. Compared with long-barrel standoff pin frames, they sit flatter to the wall and keep the hardware more restrained.
Wall-mounted floating frames usually use one of two panel-closure approaches: low-profile corner screw posts on the front face, or magnetic panel closures paired with rear hanging hardware. Both keep the insert sandwiched between two acrylic panels while the frame hangs flush or near-flush to the wall.
Hanging Wire
A braided steel wire attached to two D-ring anchors on the back panel. Hangs on a standard wall hook or nail. The simplest and most versatile mounting method — works on any wall surface.
French Cleat
An angled aluminum strip screwed to the wall, with a matching strip attached to the back of the frame. The frame hooks onto the wall strip and sits level without adjustment. Best for galleries and offices where multiple frames need to hang at consistent heights.
Adhesive Strip
Industrial-strength adhesive strips (3M Command or VHB) bond the back panel directly to the wall. No drilling, no hardware. Best for rental spaces, glass walls, and temporary installations.
Acrylic Floating Frame Size Guide

Get a Free QuoteWhy Acrylic Floating Frames Over Glass or Wood?
Acrylic floating frames weigh 50% less than glass equivalents, resist shattering, and offer crystal-clear transparency (92% light transmission). Glass frames are heavier and fragile — a concern for wall-mounted display and shipping. Wood frames are opaque, blocking the floating effect entirely. For a frameless, borderless display where the item appears to float, clear acrylic is the only practical material.
| Factor | Acrylic Floating Frame (PMMA) | Glass Frame | Wood Frame |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transparency | Crystal-clear — 92% light transmission | Clear but heavier, prone to glare | Opaque — no floating effect |
| Weight | Lightweight (~1.19 g/cm³) | Heavy — requires heavy-duty hardware | Medium — solid construction |
| Shatter resistance | High — won't shatter if dropped | Shatters — safety risk on walls | Won't shatter (advantage wood) |
| Floating effect | Full — clear panels, item floats visually | Partial — clear but weight limits design | None — opaque borders |
| Custom sizes | Laser-cut to any dimension | Glass cutting — limited shapes | CNC or hand-cut — any size |
| Branding | Print, engrave, or etch on panels | Requires separate label or etching | Sticker, paint, or burn |
| Shipping cost | Light, nestable, low breakage | Heavy, reinforced packaging | Moderate weight, can scratch |
| UV protection | UV-stable — no yellowing 10+ years | No yellowing (advantage glass) | N/A |
| Cost (at volume) | Mid-range — lowest for floating style | Higher — material + processing | Mid-range but no floating effect |
| Best for | Galleries, offices, restaurants, events | Permanent single-location display | Traditional, rustic frame styling |

What Affects Acrylic Floating Frame Pricing?
Custom acrylic floating frame pricing depends on four factors: panel thickness, frame size, closure type (magnetic adds neodymium magnets, standoff and wall-mounted builds add hardware), and order quantity. We don't publish fixed prices because every frame is custom — here's what moves the number so you can plan your budget.
Panel Thickness
Magnetic tabletop frames use 10mm, 12mm, or 15mm panels per side. 15+15mm frames use 50% more acrylic than 10+10mm. Standoff pin wall frames use thinner 3–6mm panels.
Frame Size
An 11×14 frame uses 3.7× more acrylic than a 5×7. Size is the second-largest cost driver after order quantity.
Closure Type
Magnetic adds precision-drilled recesses and magnets. Standoff pins add stainless steel hardware. Edge-clip and hanging-wire frames are most affordable.
Order Quantity
The biggest price lever. Unit cost drops 10–15% at 200 pieces and 20–25% at 500 pieces. Multi-location rollouts (500+) get the best per-unit pricing.

What is the difference between an acrylic floating frame and an acrylic photo block?
An acrylic floating frame uses two acrylic panels (typically 10–15mm each for magnetic tabletop frames, 3–6mm each for wall-mounted standoff frames) that sandwich a printed item between them — the item appears to float with clear space visible around it. An acrylic photo block is a single solid piece of acrylic, 25–30mm thick, with a photo reverse-printed directly onto the surface. Floating frames hold removable inserts (photos, certificates, artwork). Photo blocks are permanent — the image is part of the acrylic itself. If you need to swap the displayed item, choose a floating frame. If you want a permanent, frameless photo display, choose a photo block.
How do magnetic acrylic floating frames hold together?
Neodymium magnets (typically 6mm diameter, 2mm thick) are placed at the corners of the two acrylic panels. Depending on the build, the magnets can sit in shallow recesses or remain visible as polished corner magnets. When the panels are aligned, the magnets snap together and clamp the insert flat between them. Standard configurations use 4 magnets (one per corner) for sizes up to 8×10 inches, and 6–8 magnets for larger frames. The magnetic hold is strong enough to keep the panels securely together while still allowing easy separation by hand when you want to change the insert.
Can acrylic floating frames hold thick items like dried flowers or coins?
Yes. Standard magnetic floating frames clamp flat inserts — photos, certificates, menus — directly between the two panels. For thicker items like pressed flowers (2–4mm) or coins (2–3mm), we mill a shallow recess into the inner face of one or both panels to accommodate the item's thickness while keeping the outer surfaces flush. The maximum practical recess depth is about 3mm per panel (6mm total). For items thicker than 6mm, an acrylic shadow box or display case is a better fit.
What sizes are available for acrylic floating frames?
We build acrylic floating frames in every standard photo and document size: 4×6, 5×7, 8×10, 8.5×11 (US Letter), 11×14, 11×17, A4 (210×297mm), and A3 (297×420mm). Custom sizes are available for non-standard inserts — art prints, menus, certificates, or promotional materials. The panels are laser-cut to your exact dimensions with 2–3mm of clear acrylic visible around the insert, creating the floating effect.
How much do custom acrylic floating frames cost?
Four factors drive floating frame pricing: panel thickness (10mm per panel is standard for magnetic tabletop frames, 12mm and 15mm for larger or premium frames), frame size (an 11×14 frame uses 4× the material of a 4×6), closure type (magnetic adds neodymium magnets, standoff and wall-mounted builds add stainless steel hardware), and order quantity (unit cost drops significantly at 200+ pieces). A magnetic 5×7 floating frame in 10+10mm clear acrylic with diamond-polished edges is our most popular configuration. Silk-screen logo printing on the panel corner adds a flat setup fee plus per-unit cost.
