Second, are narrow strokes open and consistent rather than partially closed by heat or debris? Third, does the recessed channel keep a clean boundary where a color fill will meet it? Photograph the same character from the front and at a shallow angle, then retain that tile as the production reference.

A useful UV approval set separates color from adhesion. The color target should identify the reference, lighting, measurement location, background, and acceptable visual or instrumental difference. The adhesion and wear review should use the exact sheet grade, pretreatment, ink, cure, and topcoat that will run in production. Changing any one of those inputs after approval can change the result, so record them in the sample report rather than approving only a photograph.

White ink is another specification choice on transparent or translucent tiles. It can sit beneath colored artwork to control opacity, but its coverage and register need their own approval. Without a documented white layer, the same color can read differently over clear, frosted, or tinted PMMA. Ask the sample report to identify the print sequence, number of passes if relevant, face printed, and orientation. That makes a later reorder checkable without pretending the screen image is the physical color standard.

CNC bevel + engrave β€” the tactile signal that reads premium

CNC machining can create a bevel, pocket, or wider recessed feature when the approved drawing calls for geometry that laser engraving or surface printing cannot supply. Tool diameter, step-over, material grade, fixturing, and finish determine the feasible profile.

The buyer should approve edge hand-feel, appearance, and fit on the sample. There is no universal chamfer, pocket depth, or edge-channel dimension for every tile format; those values must follow the tile size, structural envelope, artwork, and intended finish.

If an edge channel carries a fill or identifier, define its width, depth, color, and inspection method on the drawing. Quote CNC work by the approved toolpath and cycle rather than treating it as a fixed premium tier.

CNC sample approval should cover more than the nominal dimension. Inspect the transition into corners, tool marks on the channel floor, breakout at thin edges, polishing access, and how the tile feels when lifted and stacked. A dimension can pass while the edge still feels sharp or visually uneven. The drawing should therefore pair critical dimensions with an appearance reference and identify which edges receive a secondary finish.

Fixturing also belongs in the production plan. The operator needs a repeatable way to locate the tile without marking a finished face or shifting the artwork relative to the edge. If laser, UV, and CNC operations share one tile, add registration references that survive between operations. The buyer does not need to prescribe the fixture, but the sample and inspection record should prove that the finished features align to the approved drawing.

The production-representative sample should use the intended PMMA grade, tile dimensions, artwork files, colors, process sequence, and finish. A convenience sample made on substitute material can explore an idea, but it should not release bulk. Keep the signed drawing, physical tile, color target, and sample report together. Production timeline by method β€” what each adds to lead time

A single engraved tile sample is $40–80 and takes 5–7 days; a 12-tile color check is $180–320 and takes 7 days; a full-set sample is $300–500 including air freight and takes 7–10 days. Each sample tier is paid separately and is never credited to production. Standard production takes 15–20 days after sample approval; the final schedule depends on the approved tile, artwork, process sequence, packaging, quantity, and destination.

Choose the sample tier by the decision still open. One tile can settle a character channel or edge profile. A 12-tile color check is the better gate when several suit colors, white underlayers, or finish combinations must be compared together. A full set is the appropriate approval reference when tile consistency, packing, accessory fit, total weight, and the unboxing sequence all affect the product. Do not use a single tile to approve decisions that only become visible across a full set.
